BUZZ ROUNDUP

BEEWelcome back to the BUZZ Roundup – a quick update of anything that’s changed on our village website recently and a reminder of events coming up soon.

KCC v BOA 29th June 2019-8877With such lovely warm and sunny weather forecast this weekend, its perfect timing for Keevil CC’s 70th birthday bash on Sunday 25th, and to celebrate they are holding a KPL tournament (Keevil Premier League, a gentle version of the IPL) with 4 teams of 8-a-side. Festivities start at 12:30 with BBQ and beers on the bank and a trophy presentation to the winners around 6pm. Probably your last chance to enjoy a spot of village cricket this season in the sunshine, they’d love you to come along – play, watch, cheer or boo!

Coming up…

  • Keevil Remembrance: Double Hills Memorial on Sunday 1st September, and the RAF Keevil Remembrance at Stocks Green on Saturday 7th SeptemberTeam Sapper‘s ride at Keevil on the 7th will be especially memorable this year as it also remembers the 75th Anniversary of Arnhem and the tragic glider crash at Paulton, soon after taking off from Keevil en route for the battle, which killed twenty-one sappers from 9 Field Company (Airborne) and the two glider pilots. There will be a fantastic turnout of Sappers, both cycling and non-cycling.
  • Next Parish Council Meeting is Monday 2nd September at 7.30pm, so do come along, there should be some updates on activities of the newly-formed working groups. Public Forum at the start of the meeting is your chance to air views or ask questions, and it’s always interesting to observe and hear the reports of the council during the formal session.
  • Wednesday September 11th the Keevil WI welcomes Darren Partridge who will give a lively and entertaining talk about his life as a vet. This meeting is open to anyone in the village who would like to come.
  • The Ramblers are next out on Tuesday 17th September for a lovely walk around Biddestone and lunch at the White Horse – contact Bob Ayres if you’re coming.

Memorial Ride through Keevil

Senior officers of both Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Police are undertaking a long bike ride in memory of Jerry Wickham, who was both a retired Police Officer and an elected member of Wiltshire Council, on Friday 27th September. They will be raising money for both Dorothy House and The Royal Marsden Cancer Institute, where any funds donated in Jerry’s memory will be directed to Prostate Cancer research.

Full details are still being arranged but the ride will pass through the villages of Dilton Marsh, Heywood, Edington, Bratton and Coulston, which were Jerry’s Wiltshire Council Ethandune Division, and stop in Keevil, his home village, as a mark of respect. Future diary dates (yes, Christmas will soon be here!)

That’s all for now folks! Keep spreading the word with your family, friends and neighbours to FOLLOW THE BUZZ too!
