May 2018

This year is starting to whizz by just like last year and the one before that. We started to plan our June supper party way back around Christmas thinking it was way in the future and now here it is.

SUPPER PARTY: June 13th in the village hall at 7.30pm. ALL ladies welcome.
Please come and join us for a summer supper with recipes cooked from our very own cookbook. We are not having tickets but if you know you will be coming please let a W.I. Member know so we have a rough idea of numbers, or phone me on 870438

Our July meeting is the 11th July in the village hall and the owners of the tea shop in Devizes are coming to talk about tea and let us taste some of the many wonderful teas they sell. This meeting will be open to everyone in the village who is interested in tea, please come along and there will be cake and biscuits too.

Finally thank you to Jane Knowles and Joyce Nutter for entertaining us so well at our May meeting with our own version of Desert Island Discs, it was wonderful hearing about Joyce’s life from growing up in Rochdale to ending up in Keevil .

Poetry, animals and a very enthusiastic lady was the theme of our April meeting. Dawn Lawrence clearly loves animals especially endangered ones, she has written books about the many wild animals who are in danger of extinction and she is a supporter of the Born Free Foundation. Dawn entertained and enlightened us on many animals with her poetry cleverly written about each one.

Our next meeting on Wednesday May 9th is the Resolution meeting followed by Desert Island Discs, the resolution to be discussed is “Mental Health matters”. We will start at 7.30pm. tea and coffee will be served, we will then have a discussion on the resolution and finish listening to the favourite music of one of our members.

Our programme for the next few meetings is now ready, a big thanks to Pat Bartholomew for printing them.

  • June 13th: Supper party – Open to members and non members. Come along and enjoy food from the Keevil W.I. recipe book produced in 2017.
  • July 11th: All about tea – A demonstration and tasting from the Tea Shop in Devizes.

In addition to the programme we will be organising an afternoon tea locally and a visit to the Merchant’s House in Marlborough, followed by lunch.

March 2018

After this very cold spell let’s all hope that Spring is not too far away and we wish you all a Happy Easter.

Our February meeting held on Valentine’s Day was a lively evening of making hearts from willow strips, some did actually look like hearts at the end of the evening and some resembled an old fashioned carpet beater but we all had fun and thank you to Alison Rasey for organising it and supplying the willow.

The A.G.M was held on March 14th and we said a big thank you to Janet White for all her hard work as secretary, she is now taking a rest from sending emails and taking minutes. The evening was rounded off with members reciting or reading their favourite poems.

Our programme for the next year is looking exciting with some interesting speakers and some extra activities such as a cream tea, lunch and a trip to the Merchant’s House in Marlborough.

Our next meeting, to be held in the village hall on April 11th. at 7.30pm., is a talk by Dawn Lawrence, “The Wildlife Trust. Two Steps Behind”.

January 2018

Happy New Year! It feels like forever since I wrote the last newsletter, Christmas has been and gone and all the twinkly lights have been taken down ready to sparkle again next Christmas. I always keep pretty cards, wrapping paper and gift tags and make collages of them to give as gifts or to hang on the wall, it’s a lovely way to keep treasured cards so please keep some of yours for a Christmas craft evening in November 2018.

On a cold, damp December day a group of us visited the American Museum in Claverton, warmed by coffee and cake we wandered around the museum. I have visited several times but always manage to learn something new. There was a magnificent tree decorated with Art Deco ornaments and many of the room sets had decorations too, there were some very impressive wreaths adorned with corn dollies, feathers and greenery. After a lovely lunch in the restaurant we visited the two museum shops, one is very quaint and smells of cinnamon and has lots of artefacts to look at, it was all very festive.

Our Christmas party was held in the village hall, we invited Liz and Gerry Vaughan so we could thank Gerry for his wonderful work on building the commemorative bench on the playing field, two ladies from a women’s refuge also were invited and we were able to present them with two slow cookers and thanks to the generosity of the members we gave them seven gift bags for the women at the refuge to open on Christmas Day.

Our January meeting was a very interesting talk on antiques by Anne Burton several members brought along items for Anne to look at. I’m so sorry I missed it due to my baby granddaughter arriving a month early but I’m pleased the evening went well, thank you Anne.

The February meeting falls on Valentine’s Day so we are looking forward to making willow hearts with Alison Rasey. Please bring along anything you would like to adorn your willow heart and if possible bring some secateurs for cutting the willow. This should be a lovely evening with a theme of hearts and any non members wishing to attend will be most welcome.

If you haven’t already signed the list for the meal at. The Well on February 28th there will still be time at the February meeting or you can ring Sue Holton or myself.

The 2918/2019 programme will be printed soon and we have lots of interesting speakers and activities planned.

November 2017

On 11th October we enjoyed a very informative talk taking us through the ages of wedding dresses. It was very interesting to see paintings of brides from the past and to see how dresses have evolved up to the present day.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 8th November when we will be treated to a Victorian Christmas after a short business meeting. The meeting starts at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

The outing to the American Museum is on Tuesday 5th December. Please let me know if you would like to attend this event
