March 2021

A whole year since our last A.G.M ., little did we know in March 2020 that we wouldn’t be meeting at all for a year, we hadn’t even heard of Zoom never mind having a meeting by Zoom , but needs must,  we held our 2021 A.G.M., by Zoom and enjoyed a talk given by Sue Wood who lives in the village about her work as a Buddhist Chaplain at Erlstoke prison.

Our next meeting, again on Zoom, is on Wednesday 14th April, we will have a short business meeting followed by our speaker John Tucker who is going to tell us the history of aspirin. Look out for your invitation to the meeting by email.

January 2021

Happy New Year to everyone in Keevil, let’s hope this year is the year we get back to being the sociable village we know and love.

In a bid to keep Keevil WI going the Committee has met several times on Zoom, and our last WI Meeting was also held on Zoom and it worked very well with only the odd hiccup!

For our Christmas meeting each member was given a kit to sew a felt mitten to hang on a tree or door, along with chocolate to spur them on. These were very successful even though not all members can thread needles …. we can’t all bake cakes and make jam either so if you thought these things were essential to joining the WI please rethink and come along and see for yourself.

Our next meeting will be in February on the 10th and will once again be on Zoom and the theme is Valentine …. please be imaginative.

In December we should have celebrated our 80th Anniversary but instead each member received a commemorative slate coaster and the promise of a village celebration in the summer. I think for a group to have survived 80 years and be the longest surviving group in the village is certainly something to celebrate and it’s all down to the many women of Keevil who have kept this WI going. We would love to think that we could keep going for many more years but for that to happen we do need more members so I’m extending an invitation to any women in the village to give WI a chance and come along to a meeting …… Zoom or otherwise. The choir and embroidery group were all started by WI and with more members we could certainly explore more possibilities.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined in the Advent trail this year and lit Keevil up for Christmas, the village looked wonderful and Christmassy and the tree by the village hall completed Keevil at Christmas. I am planning a photo book of all the windows and lights partly to celebrate the 80th Anniversary but also as a record of Christmas 2020 and how Covid didn’t stop the lights. See the 2020 advent trail over on the Gallery here

The WI Advent trail will be on this year and I’ll start the list in October …. please don’t wait to be asked it’s for all the village to join in.

November 2020 – Keevil WI Advent Trail

Nr Edgecombe cottage_D4_1641-2Christmas is going to happen in a few weeks and who knows what we will be able to do this year. One thing that is allowed is light, lots of light, let’s light the whole village up and make this a Christmas we remember for how the village looks rather than all the things we aren’t allowed to do.

If you would like to take part in this year’s Advent Trail please let me know on 870438 – but if you don’t want to decorate a window then please think about placing lights in a window or tree so our pretty village sparkles this year.

Keevil WI celebrates an anniversary at the end of the year, it is 80 years since the ladies of Keevil made jam for the war effort in the kitchen at Beach House. It is unlikely that we will be able to celebrate in style so I’d like to record the anniversary with photos of the Advent Trail.

Please let’s make this a special Christmas.

July 2020

I think I should have named this the Keevil WI NoNewsLetter! We have all been through a very strange time and emerged into a very different world. We will not be having a meeting in August and will have to wait for advice before we confirm the September meeting.

I hope we will be able to resume full service as soon as possible but the main message is to stay safe so we will keep in touch by email or phone call until we can meet safely ….. we do have a committee meeting at the end of July so we may be able to come up with virtual WI.
