Casual Vacancies on Keevil Parish Council

The Parish Clerk has informed Buzz that he has now received further information from the Electoral Services Officer, Wiltshire Council, regarding the Casual Vacancies on Keevil Parish Council due to the resignations of Simon Newton and Juliette Goodwin.

They have advised that, due to the easing of lockdown restrictions, the Returning Officer has confirmed that advertising of the casual vacancies can commence from this Friday 5 June.

The vacancy notices are now listed on the Vacancies page here.

You can download a PDF of the full letter from the Electoral Services Officer, including the notice for each vacancy, on these links:

According to the letter, if an election is not requested [by the date required] then the Parish Council must fill the vacancies by co-option as soon as is practical.

The letter also says if valid requests for a by-election are received, the provisions of the Coronavirus Act 2020 and The Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus)(Postponement of Elections and Referendums)(England and Wales) Regulations 2020 means “the by-election will not currently take place, and the vacancy will be held open until the by election takes place. The 2020 regulations provide for the by election to take place on the date for the Ordinary Election of Councillors due to be held on Thursday 6 May 2021.  However, this date may be brought forward or deferred by the Government depending upon the circumstances.”
