Well, after yesterday’s powercuts due to the grassland blaze in Hilperton resulting from a bonfire, it seemed like a good idea to update the website with links to fire service advice relating to bonfires, BBQs, and countryside safety. Living as we do in a rural conservation area with many thatch-roofed cottages and surrounded by farmland, we all recognise the need to be even more careful, but in these tinderbox conditions an extra layer of caution goes a long way! Coming up…
It’s actually quite quiet over the next few weeks … but don’t forget the Cycling Group every Tuesday 6pm at Stocks Green, and Art Group the first & third Wednesdays of the month 🙂
- The Parish Council will be holding a short PLANNING MEETING on Monday 3rd August at 7:30pm in the village hall. The next Ordinary Meeting will Monday 7th September;
- The Mobile Library is back Monday 10th August 10.35 – 10.55 outside Rose & Crown Cottages at Stocks Green;
- The WALKING GROUP have lined up a smashing little bimble around Norton St Philip followed by lunch at The George Inn on Wednesday 19th August – full deets on the page;
- The next Parish News deadline is Thursday 20th August 5pm for the September edition;
- 1st Tuesday Teas will be back after a summer break on 1st September 2.30pm in the village hall with tea, cake, and fabulous conversation with friends and neighbours;
- And there’s the performance of ORGAN MUSIC at the Church on Friday 4th September 7pm, with all donations going to the roof repair fund – full deets in your Parish News.
Parish Matters
The Parish Council website has been updated with news about development of the new Wiltshire Local Plan and other changes in the planning system that will have an impact on us – and will be maintained as new details are received. There’s also been some useful information from Wiltshire Council recently that’s worth flagging up …
- Annual canvass communication: the annual canvass, which helps keep the electoral register up-to-date, is about to begin. Official canvass emails will only come from wiltshire.electoral.services@notifications.service.gov.uk and will never ask for your bank details.
- HRC Booking System Pilot: a pilot booking system is being introduced at Devizes and Melksham Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) – bookings open on 8th September and visits by appointment start on 14th September.
- MyWilts improvements: a number of updates have recently been made to the MyWilts app to improve how issues are reported. You can now follow a case even when reported by somebody else, and stay informed about progress and when they are likely to be resolved.
We are looking for two people to join the Parish Council
We have two vacancies! It doesn’t matter if you have no experience – training is available. What matters is that you care about our village life, and are engaged in some small way with our community.
To stand for co-option, read the information at keevilparishcouncil.gov.uk/get-involved, fill in the application form, and send it to the Clerk. That’s it. We’d love to hear from you!

We’re so sad to see this summer staple draw to a close, such happy memories of past events, and so grateful to everyone involved for their tireless efforts. Here’s the notice provided for the website…
The Committee have been running the event for the last 25 years or so, even being featured in the national press (Sunday Independent, Aug 2005 – ‘Mind Your Manors’), but it is now time to depart the stage. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who, over the many years, has made the event possible: all those who have served on the Fun Committee, some who are no longer with us, and especially to Ian Simpson, who has been such a leading light over the years, but no longer well enough to attend; the army of volunteers who have assisted in setting things up and the clear-up afterwards; the Vernon Family, Goodwins and Dixons, all who have kindly hosted us over the years; the various bands, groups and orchestras; and of course everyone who has come along, whatever the weather!
The ethos of the Fun Committee has always been to give back to the village any surplus money raised. It is estimated that over the many years, and various events organised by the Fun Committee, more than £25,000 has gone to various good causes within village. This year we are pleased to be able to give both the Village Hall and Community Shed £132 each.
While it is an end of era for the current Fun Committee, we would be able to offer guidance to any new group who may wish to carry on with a similar village music event.
