Welcome back to the BUZZ Roundup – keeping you in touch with happenings in Keevil village come rain or shine… or rain… and rain… 😉
What a December of weather we had! First a day of snow followed by the big freeze for a week or more, then rain rain and yet more rain – none of which is helpful to getting out with a camera to photograph the fabulous advent windows and some of the Christmas lights – but out we did finally get on Christmas Eve 🙂 Made it round to Wick Lane this year (number 14), what a smashing display! As ever, some numbers couldn’t be found or weren’t alight, please feel free to send in your own photos to add to the gallery (deets here) Gallery is here, and the trail list will stay on the WI page here for a while. WI President Jan Maskrey said: “Well done and a huge thank you to everyone who took part this year it’s fantastic to see the village lit up and looking so beautiful. Looking forward to 2023″…
And indeed we are – looking forward to 2023! If you’ve not made any particular plans and fancy seeing in the New Year with friends and neighbours, there will be music, dancing and live streaming of the NY countdown at the NEW YEARS EVE PARTY evening in the village hall…from 8pm, bring your own food and drink, deets on the page folks 🙂
Coming up in the New Year…
- 1st Tuesday Club on Tuesday 3rd January, cuppas and cake (of course you need more cake!) 2.30-4pm in the village hall. Note, there will not be a Post Office on Tuesday;

- Don’t forget the deadline for the February edition of the Parish News is 5pm on Thursday 19th January;
- Details of the January Keevil Walking Group ramble have yet to be finalised, but walk leader Colin Dimbylow is aiming for the end of January, based around the Lamb Inn at Urchfont comprising about 5 1/2 miles of downland tracks up to the Wessex Ridgeway and back. More details to be provided, including lunch arrangements, when the route has been tested.
Skittles evenings are set to return in 2023! There has not been a skittles match since the start of the pandemic, however, the plan is to arrange a match at the iconic Tuckers Grave Inn, Faulkland sometime during the spring or summer of 2023. Supper will be provided during the evening. Now open to all, this will be a good night out and a load of fun: more details in the new year.
Parish Matters
The next Parish Council meeting is on Monday 9th January 2023. If you have any suggestions regarding S137 donations, recreation ground play equipment, or any other new community projects, you still have a couple of days to get them to Sarah Dow or Rob Kevan, along with an idea of costings, so we can include them in budget papers for discussion at the meeting. Full details on the Parish Council website here.
And finally…
Following the deeply sad loss of dear Janet Smythe, we’ve been asked to pass on funeral details: Monday 9th January, 11.45am at Semington Crematorium, and afterwards at the Somerset Arms. Janet’s relatives will need a rough estimate of numbers, so please get in touch with Rachel Howe if you are planning to go… (There will also be a memorial church service and party in the spring.)
