BUZZ ROUNDUP

Welcome back to the BUZZ Roundup – keeping you in touch with seasonal happenings in Keevil village whatever the weather…

First up, for all you walkers and cyclists, the Parish Council have just been notified of an immediate CLOSURE of TOWMEAD LANE due to a dangerous tree following a large branch falling last week. It looks like the whole length from Main Street to Mere House will be shut, possibly for up to three weeks. Thanks to everyone who reported this on MyWilts, helping to get it sorted sooner rather than later! Photo Mike Swanson

Also good luck to Keevil School for this weekend’s Scarecrow Trail! You may have heard the mobile belfry Peals On Wheels will be on the Banfield Recreation Ground both days… there’ll be trained ringers around so if you’ve ever thought about learning to ring, this is a perfect opportunity to try it out! They are not full size church bells (obviously, lol) but they work in exactly the same way, just smaller and lighter. Photos Matthew Higby and Sarah Dow.

Parish Matters

The 2026 ANNUAL COMMUNITY EVENT & MEETING is Friday 29th May from 6pm in the village hall. Open to all, with cheese, wine and nibbles, this is very much a community affair, with the first part of the evening dedicated to celebrating the groups and people that make Keevil such an amazing place, followed by the Parish meeting. This is NOT a Council meeting, but residents’ views on council priorities will be discussed, including a proposal for a gazebo on the Banfield Recreation Ground, and a second defibrillator station… see here for more on previous APCMs. We very much hope you’ll join in!

There will be a Planning Meeting at 8.30pm on 1st June 2026see links here. The next scheduled Ordinary business meeting is Monday 6th July at 7.30pm in the village hall. Meeting agendas and papers will be here.

And finally…

We been asked to publish the following message…

“Glenys James, wife of Ian Simpson, sadly died at RUH Bath on 4th May, after a sudden illness.
Glenys and Ian have lived at Pyatts Farmhouse for more than 20 years, and been active members of the community.
The funeral will be on Monday 1st June at 3pm in St Leonard’s Church, with refreshments afterwards at the village hall.
All are welcome”.

Really sorry to hear of Glenys sudden passing – our heartfelt thoughts are with Ian and the family. Such fond memories of her on Keevil Walking Group rambles back in the day… here on the Horningsham walk in 2019, with Bob Ayres and Ann Woodhead whom we still sorely miss too!
