30th May: Cardiologists Kitchen at County Hall

Eating your way to a healthy heart is the next subject on the menu in a newly-launched series of talks hosted by Wiltshire Council.

Dr Ali Khavandi, an expert on the importance of diet in medical care, presents The Cardiologist’s Kitchen at County Hall, Trowbridge, on 30th May.

Dr Khavandi, a consultant cardiologist at the Royal United Hospital Bath, will explain how a healthy diet influences blood pressure, cholesterol and weight.

He has appeared regularly on BBC television and writes about health for The Observer.

The first of our #EPIC Talks attracted an audience of more than 50 at County Hall to hear Dr Charles Kriel, from the Corsham Institute, speak about social media and fake news.

“It was an excellent event, extremely interesting and thought provoking,” David Marshall said.

“The potential for Ted-style talks here at County Hall (or elsewhere in Wiltshire) is definitely a good thing. I’m really looking forward to future events and will be nudging my colleagues to come along as well.”

Joanne Pitt, Wiltshire Council director for human resources and organisational development, said: “#EPIC Talks got off to a brilliant start, and I’m certain Dr Khavandi will be equally fascinating.

“#EPIC Talks have enormous potential to make a hugely positive contribution to constructive debate, public speaking and the power of thought in Wiltshire.”

Through #EPIC Talks, Wiltshire Council hopes to stimulate debate and learning, inviting thought leaders, academics and inspirational speakers to share their knowledge on a range of topics. The second #EPIC Talk – The Cardiologist’s Kitchen, by Dr Ali Khavandi – is on 30 May from 5.30-7pm at County Hall, Trowbridge. Register for free at http://www.epictalks.eventbrite.co.uk.
