Wiltshire PHAB Long Service Award to Keevil Readers

Wiltshire PHAB (Physically Handicapped & Able Bodied) Club had an award presentation evening at the Wyvern Club in Devizes on 20th October to recognise volunteers who had made contributions to the cause for over 10 years.

One of the awards was to the Keevil Readers who have, for over 20 years, been reading the Wiltshire PHAB quarterly magazine onto tape for the benefit of partially sighted members.

Pictured here are Geoff West, Paul Lenaerts and Pat & Jim Carpenter having received their certificate from Ros Probert, Vice Chair of Devizes PHAB who presented the awards.

The band of readers has changed over the years (except for Geoff – who is a founder member) and currently Joyce Nutter and Di Bouault (who couldn’t make the presentation evening) make up the team of regular contributors.

Originally, David Mellor organised the team and Sandy Sanderson recorded the “readings” on his reel-to-reel tape recorder, then copied them onto cassettes. Sadly, both have passed away and these days Paul Lenaerts records straight onto computer and ‘burns’ CDs for Michael Braund to distribute.
