Welcome back to the BUZZ Roundup – keeping you in touch with happenings in Keevil village come rain or shine…
If you’ve ever wondered about the best way to walk to The Lamb on the Strand then join us this coming Saturday 22 July for a lovely circular toddle of about 3 miles. Weather forecast being what it is, the plan is to stop at the pub for a pint or so before the homeward leg, but you can book yourself in for lunch if you like 🙂 we’ll meet by the entrance to The Manor at 11.15am. Then, on Wednesday 26 July, there’s a smashing little Bimble around Bradford-on-Avon & Avoncliff lined up – see Walking Group page for full details of both these short walks;
Also coming up…

- The KEEVIL CRICKET CLUB season only has three more home games left at our lovely Manor ground: Saturday 29 July vs Beehive Southwick, 19 August vs Purton, and the final game of the season 02 September vs Sherston Magna. More deets on the page.
- 1st TUESDAY CLUB is most conveniently on 1st August this month, with tea, cake, and good company 2.30-4pm in the village hall;
- Bannerdown Gliding Club, based on Keevil Airfield, will be hosting the Bannerdown Regional Gliding Competition 2023, including the Interservices Championships, from 5-13 August 2023. Full deets sent by Nick Smith, Bannerdown Liaison Officer, on the Airfield Information page;
- Don’t forget the Church & Village Fete on 12th August, and the Games Day on the Airfield the following Saturday 19th August…
- Keeevil’s WI extend a warm invitation to all to their Bat Walk at the Church on 13 September and Simon Gough’s talk about his experience with Wiltshire Air Ambulance on 11 October;
And just to remind you of the smashing Folk on the Boat trip in the not-so-distant past with the fabulous Fly Yeti Fly, there’s a few pictures on the page… time for a big THANK YOU to the organisers, and to everyone who works so tirelessly throughout the year to keep our village social life thriving!

Other Parish and Community Matters
The council would love to co-opt an additional member to fill the vacancy left by Sarah formally taking up the role of Parish Clerk – full deets on the councils website here – come to a meeting, talk to one of the team, get a feel for what’s involved…
There will be an Extraordinary meeting of the Parish Council on Monday 7th August 2023 at 8.15pm in the village hall, with a new planning application to consider: PL/2023/05288 at 67B Martins Road for the addition of a porch to the front, single storey extension to the side and rear, loft conversion including roof lights to rear, and steel flue to side. Application documents here, you can comment on the application here. Councillors will also be glad to hear your views at the meeting so do come along if you can.
Don’t forget consultation for the proposed Wiltshire Design Guide is open until midnight on Sunday 30th July. You can watch a recording of yesterdays information session here: Draft Design Guide Webinar – 19 July – YouTube. The views of residents of small rural villages like Keevil are important, so do participate in the consultation if you can. Keevil Parish Council intends to make its own consultee response, so if there are any comments you’d like noted, please send them to the Clerk by end of play on 27 July.
Talking of your views on things – among items raised at the last PC meeting (draft minutes here Minutes 2023-07-10 Ordinary Meeting_DRAFT) Keevil School are looking for ideas for sponsorship events to raise funds for Ukraine, and councillors for thoughts on the future of the empty BT phonebox near Stocks Green (if you’re not familiar, this is an unsealed modern unit, not a traditional red kiosk). Get in touch with Geoff West on either of these.
And finally…
The owner of the derelict TURNPIKE cottage is also seeking views! He writes:
“[There is a] question of what we should do with the shell of this former TurnPike. Being right alongside the A361 on the junction of Buzzely lane to Bulkington/Keevil, it is a major visibility restriction to the left for anyone pulling out onto the main road. We are also getting concerned about the condition of the structure, and the danger it poses to traffic on the A361. We therefore put it to the residents of Keevil, the surrounding villages and Wiltshire Council Highways, as what should be done to get a successful outcome for all parties for this building from 1752, with its history and links to a bygone age. Should we…?
- renovate it as a livestock building
- demolish it
- work with Wiltshire Council to demolish it and create a safer road junction.
We look forward to everyone’s thoughts and views.”
