Keevil Defibrillator

THE DEFIBRILLATOR MOVED from its previous location in 2023 and is now prominently visible on the front wall of the village hall in St Martins Road, BA14 6NA.
Use the defibrillator if the person is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
The defibrillator is in a locked box and you will require an access code from the ambulance service to unlock it, so make sure you have your mobile phone with you unless you already have the code.
To access the equipment:
- Phone 999
- State location of defibrillator box OR give site ID : WC0160
- The what3words location of the defibrillator is : elders.removed.tags
You will then be given the code to access the cabinet.
On taking the defibrillator out and opening it, full verbal instructions are given on its use.
After use:
- Return the equipment to the telephone kiosk and advise Geoff West on 01380 870425 so new pads can be ordered.
- In all cases of emergency, DIAL 999 FIRST. It is really important the professionals are on their way.
- If you or the operator think you need an ambulance, remember THE AMBULANCE SERVICE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN GIVE YOU THE ACCESS CODE TO THE DEFIBRILLATOR BOX. So tell the operator you are near a defibrillator.
- The ambulance service can notify you if there is a cPAD box near to you if you are not in Keevil, but it will help if you tell them you are near one if you are.
- The ambulance service must give you the access code to the defibrillator box. If you are willing they will ask you to get this and commence the relevant actions.
- Then follow the instructions in the box.
What You Can Do In An Emergency
This resource, provided by the NHS, covers some of the most common medical emergencies you are likely to be confronted with and how to deal with them until the ambulance arrives – First Aid
Burns And Scalds
Depending on how serious a burn is, it may be possible to treat it at home.
For minor burns, keep the burn clean and do not burst any blisters that form. For detailed information on what to do, click here.
More serious burns require professional medical attention.
You should go to a hospital A&E department for:
- all chemical and electrical burns
- large or deep burns – any burn bigger than the injured person’s hand
- burns that cause white or charred skin – any size
- burns on the face, neck, hands, feet, any joints or genitals
If someone has breathed in smoke or fumes, they should also get medical attention.
Some symptoms may be delayed and can include:
- coughing
- a sore throat
- difficulty breathing
- facial burns
People at greater risk from the effects of burns, such as children under 10 years old, should also get medical attention after a burn or scald.
The size and depth of the burn will be assessed, and the affected area cleaned before a dressing is applied. In severe cases, skin graft surgery may be recommended.

Dental Emergency
If you need dental treatment in an emergency or you need to see a dentist out of hours –
- Call your dentist
- If you’re not registered with a dentist, call a local dentist who may be able to help
- Call 111 to find an out-of-hours dental service near you
Do not contact your GP as they will not be able to offer emergency or out-of-hours dental care. If you’re in pain while waiting to see a dentist, take painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
When to go to hospital: Only go to A&E if you have:
- heavy bleeding
- injuries to your face, mouth, or teeth
- severe swelling, or increasing swelling of your mouth, lips, throat, neck or eye
